Epilepsy Awareness with BUCCAL

Epilepsy is a condition which affects the central nervous system. An outbreak of chaotic electrical activity in the brain leads to a seizure, which can be partial or a result in loss of consciousness. There are many causes of epilepsy which includes birth trauma, head injury, food sensitivity, flickering light, cancer, loud noise and fatigue, although no specific cause is found. Most people with epilepsy take medication, but some prevent seizures by avoiding triggers, and resorting to natural remedies such as complementary therapies that can help reduce stress.

Buccal Midazolam is an emergency rescue medication prescribed under special license by a doctor to reduce the duration of or stop prolonged or continuous seizures and prevent status epilepticus and the potential risks. It is administered by a trained person to the buccal mucosa (between the gums and cheek) and is becoming increasingly popular due to its effectiveness in stopping seizures and its social acceptability.
